Handmade soaps are often made using one of the three methods: Hot process, Melt and pour, Cold process.

In the Hot process method, the oils and butters are heated to a very high temperature to speed up the soap formation reaction. During this process, there is high chance that all the goodness in oils, butters and herbs can evaporate and finally not be beneficial to the skin.

In the Melt and pour method, the oils and butters are already made into a soap and sold as ready to use soap base. This means that we cannot customize it to our needs. This is the most common method used by soap makers, as it is very easy and cost effective. But there may not be any ‘real’ benefits to the skin, as pre-made soap bases often have Palm oil, SLS, SLES, etc., which are not very good for the skin.
